Boring Boring Trilby

1 06 2007

My life is boring. How do I know this? Because I have nothing to write a blog about. No interesting stories, funny anecdotes or jokes. Nope, nothing.
Things were different in the summer, I can tell you. I had plenty to say; the words flowed out of me life Niagra Falls, gushing onto the page and settling into interesting, witty pieces. No surprise since I was having the time of my life in America, metting amazing people, doing crazy things, and hopping from state to state, experiencing the best the US has to offer. I met soccer coaches in Wyoming, Evlis impersonators in Vegas, a german student obsessed with soccer in San Diego, an eccentric old hostel owner with thousands of old LPs in his living room in Colorado, a girl who drove from Canada to California to sneak into a Jason Mraz gig and has now just bought a schoolbus to travel across America, and countless other people. I was asked by one family if we had pizza in England and signed numerous autographs just because I was from the country ‘that invented soccer’. I swam in a lake in Idaho, saw David Beckham play against Real Salt Lake in Utah, stayed up for 24 hours while travelling across Nevada, played soccer on Venice Beach in California, hiked for hours up hills in Glenwood Springs to be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains, had a drink in the ‘Cheers’ bar in Boston, saw the sun set over the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco, felt small at Ground Zero in New York, and whiled away the horus travelling by reading Lance Armstrong’s autobiography over Seb’s shoulder. Just to piss him off.
Yes, life was interesting then. I was somebody. I had a story. Now I’m just another commuting, Guardian-reading, long black coat wearing schmuck. And this is why I have nothing interesting to write, for this I apologise. You clicked this link hoping to find a little bit of written fun, but found my morose ramblings instead. As way of repentance I can only offer you my summer adventures – go here -> www.america.deliberatelydeliberating.co.uk.

So long interesting James, it was nice knowing you.
